O Henry
William Sidney Porter, forever known throughout the Universe as O Henry, wrote most of his prodigous output of short stories during his very few last years. His life was was a hodgepodge of events and careers, and at one time he was a fugitive from justice hiding out in Honduras, then later served time as a convicted embezzler. His writing career took off after he was released from prison in 1901, and the public had an insatiable demand for his stories, all of which remain in print to this day. His career was cut short by his death in 1910.
