Lucretia Peabody Hale

From one of the most distinguished and literate American families,
Lecretia Peabody Hale wrote many stories that were ostensibly for children,
but managed to be quite entertaining for adults of the 19th century.
Indeed, the stories hold up remarkably well today, and many of them are truly funny.
Her characters, The Peterkins Family, may be among the
stupidest ever to be written about,
yet they somehow managed to be well-rounded, and developed and grew through the series.
