Ambrose Bierce

With perhaps the sharpest wit of any American writer, Ambrose Bierce's
sardonic tales and poetry made Edgar Allan Poe's horror stories seem like playful romps.
An existentialist before the term was ever coined, his writings held nothing sacred, and continue to outrage readers even today.

But no matter how offensive some of his stories were, they were often utterly brilliant and extremely funny.
